These woolly and stout beasts have been nicknamed the “frozen warriors” by National Geographic and have evolved little since the last Ice Age (c. 115 000 – 11 700 years ago). They are truly magnificent to behold and I got the opportunity to see and photograph them for the first time in 2019.
